Back to School Update from Constable Thompson

As school approaches, we want to assure you that the safety and security of our children and school staff is our priority. We cover 3 school districts, each having their own law enforcement. However, all of our Deputies are mandated to patrol the schools via foot and vehicular patrols. We work well with our school districts and since Constable Thompson took office he took measures to ensure our office was trained, equipped and ready to respond to any dangerous event that may occur on school grounds. Those measures included mandating:

  1. All Deputies patrol schools in their assigned areas.

  2. The assignment of a School Resource Liaison, who is also a certified SRO, to communicate with the schools regarding any needs or issues that may arise.

  3. All Deputies must complete a minimum of 16 hours of active shooter training. Furthermore, we have an instructor for this program working at our office.

  4. We have an operational fully trained and qualified SWAT team w/armored vehicle and tactical medical staff on standby through a unique partnership with CVFD.

  5. We have a certified UAS (drone) pilot with drone capability for large scale events.

Many measures have been taken to ensure a smooth and safe start to the school year. Any threats towards schools will result in a swift response. Furthermore, now is a good time to talk to your kids and review your emergency plan. It is also a good time to express to the kids that joking about threats is not a wise idea.

We pray that all of our children and staff are surrounded by guardian angels and a hedge of protection so that we have another safe school year. God Bless each and every one of our children for they are our future and in them we have hope.
